Role:
Project Manager
Quick Facts:
∎ Managed a three-day challenge to design and build a functional competition robot with the Robolabs community.
∎ Brought together participants from multiple locations, including international attendees joining remotely.
∎ Designed comprehensive event branding, including visual identity, t-shirt graphics, and campaign imagery.
∎ Documented the event through live streams, Q&As, and a themed video featuring the final robot, “Robo-Mantis.”
The NorCal Ri3D event was a dynamic exercise in collaboration and innovation, where the entire Robolabs community united to design, build, and test a fully functional competition robot in just three days. As project manager, I coordinated efforts across in-person and remote participants, creating a space for brainstorming, problem-solving, and hands-on building. By connecting participants both locally and from as far as Mexico and other U.S. states, we created an inclusive environment that allowed everyone to contribute to the challenge. The intensity of the time constraint not only amplified the excitement but also served as a powerful catalyst for early R&D, helping us iterate quickly and identify solutions that would shape our competitive season.
Beyond the robotics challenge, this event was an opportunity to infuse creativity into every element of the project. I developed the event’s visual identity, from logo design and campaign graphics to custom t-shirts that fostered a sense of community and purpose. Bringing my photography equipment, I documented the journey through live streams and Q&A sessions, culminating in a highlight video that showcased the final “Robo-Mantis” robot—a mantis-inspired design for the VEX Robotics game, Over Under. This experience was a convergence of design, engineering, and storytelling, capturing both the technical achievements and the vibrant community spirit that brought it all to life.
